Which website in which phase?

  • Idea and validation: a landing page with a clear message and a contact form or waiting list. Fast, affordable, measurable.
  • After founding / pre-seed: a company website with 5–10 pages: offer, team, references, contact, blog or news.
  • Funding round and growth: a custom corporate website, multilingual, with careers and press sections.
  • Product on the web: a web portal with login or an online shop – that is product development and budgeted accordingly.

Running costs after launch

  • Domain: approx. 10–40 per year for .com or a country domain
  • Hosting: from free (static sites) to approx. 50 per month; shops and portals considerably more
  • Maintenance and updates: needed regularly with systems such as WordPress – as a flat fee or by effort
  • Further development: new pages, content, SEO and campaigns

Rough market ranges in CHF or EUR, September 2026.

Website builder or agency?

Builders such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow usually cost 15–50 per month and work well for a first landing page you maintain yourself. An agency pays off when the website has to sell: clear positioning, good copy, fast loading, SEO and a design that fits the brand.

Often the best solution is a combination: the agency designs structure and look, the team maintains the content afterwards.

Common mistakes

  • Starting too big: 30 pages before you know what convinces customers. A strong landing page often achieves more.
  • Forgetting SEO: fixing titles, descriptions and structure afterwards is more expensive than doing it right from the start.
  • No plan for languages: in multilingual markets such as Switzerland, a second or third language is often a must – and more than a translation.
  • Dependency: clarify who owns the domain, hosting account and logins – ideally you.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a simple landing page cost?
With an agency, a landing page including concept, design and build is usually in the low four figures. With a website builder and your own copy it can be cheaper.
How long does it take to build a website?
A landing page often 2–4 weeks, a company website with 5–10 pages usually 6–12 weeks – provided the corporate design and copy are ready in time.
Do I need a CMS like WordPress?
Only if you change content often yourself. For a few rarely changed pages, static websites are faster, more secure and cheaper to run.
Does a startup website need to be multilingual?
If you sell in several language regions, yes. Plan translations and the technical set-up (e.g. hreflang) from the start.
