Trade-Fair Booth for Startups – 10 Questions and Answers

How startups plan a trade-fair presence that brings attention and contacts.

Updated: September 2026

1. What does a trade-fair booth cost?

Three items: design (guide around €4,800–19,200), construction (guide approx. €350–850 per m²) and floor rent from the organiser.

2. What is the difference between design and construction?

The agency creates the concept and 3D visualisation. A booth builder produces, delivers and assembles the booth.

3. Which booth types are there?

Row booth (one open side), corner booth (two), peninsula (three) and island booth (four open sides). Many fairs also have startup or shared areas.

4. System booth or custom build?

A system booth is cheaper and reusable, a custom build more distinctive. From 2–3 fairs a year a reusable booth usually pays off.

5. When do I need to start planning?

At least 3 months ahead. Organisers often require plans, registrations and technical details weeks in advance.

6. Is a startup area worth it?

Often yes. Many fairs offer affordable startup areas with pre-built booths – ideal for a first appearance.

7. What should happen at the booth?

Set goals: demos, meetings, lead capture. Layout, screens, meeting area and storage follow from them.

8. Which additional materials do I need?

Roll-ups, flyers, business cards, merchandise and possibly workwear – all in the corporate design.

9. What is signage?

Signs and wayfinding systems, for example in the office, at a shop or on the facade, including illuminated signs.

10. How do I measure the success of a fair?

Count contacts, qualified leads, booked meetings and later orders – and compare them with the total cost.
